Prof, bomber, 7, others die in Unimad bomb attacks

A professor, students and a staff of the University of Maiduguri have died in two separate bomb attacks by suicide bombers on the institution’s campus in the Borno state capital

13 others sustained injuries in the attack on a mosque, during an early morning prayers in the senior staff quarters of the university.

One of the two suicide bombers, a seven year old girl, was among those killed in the bomb attack.

The explosion caused panic in the university.

The late professor has been identified as Prof. Aliyu Usman Mani, the Director of Veterinary of the University, according to Alhaji Satomi Ahmed, the Chairman of State Emergency Management Agency(SEMA). The Commissioner of Police(CP), Damian Chukwu, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Maiduguri.

Meanwhile, a third suicide bomber, a 12-year-old girl heading to the university campus had been intercepted.

The girl was sighted at Blaka village behind the university by villagers who promptly alerted the military.

Soldiers shot her dead, without detonating the improvised explosive device strapped to her body which was later deactivated.
