President Buhari denies alleged hatred for Igbo people

Buhari promises to implement projects to fast-track South East development

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the insinuation that he hates Ndigbo people in the South East region, as the agenda of the opposition.

Buhari said his alleged hatred for Ndigbo is the handiwork of mischief makers.

The President spoke on the issue at an empowerment programme organized by a non-governmental organization at item Ameegu in Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi state.

Buhari described what he calls lies, permutation and accusation as an agenda to pitch him against Ndigbo.

Saying that he loves Ndigbo, Buhari recalled how he invited the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu to his home country in Daura, Katsina, where they discussed the future of Nigeria.

Also in 2002, Buhari said he picked late Senate President, Doctor Chuba Okadigbo, as his running mate for the 2003 presidential poll, while he is now working to actualize the Second Niger Bridge project.

Buhari was represented by the Executive Director in charge of Administration/Training, Nigeria Television Authority, Dr. Steve Egbo.

He said, “All these accusations, permutations are all lies calculated to create bad feelings of Igbo people.

“In 2003, I picked Dr. Chuba Okadigbo as my running mate in that year’s presidential election. If I hated Nd’Igbo, I wouldn’t have done that.

“In 2017, the Federal Government under my leadership commenced work on the Second Niger Bridge following its abandonment by the previous governments all these years.”
