Federal Executive Council has warned federal universities to stop charging tuition fees, saying it is illegal.
Education Minister of State, Professor Anthony Anwuka, made this known to the State House correspondents at the end of the weekly meeting of the council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The minister said the meeting deliberates on the tuition fees being charged by the various universities, including those charging fees per course unit.
National Universities Commission (NUC), according to the minister, has been directed to clarify and update the council on the fee regime.
Anwuka explained that although a federal university could charge auxiliary fee, it must be decided by the university governing council and management, and be affordable and acceptable to students.
