Presidency considers requests to extend tax amnesty programme

New executive order will boost revenue generation – Presidency

The Presidency is considering requests for extending its tax amnesty under the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS), which expired midnight on Saturday.

Finance minister, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, who gave this indication, said the requests come from some state governments and the organized private sector.

According to the minister, those seeking the extension, cited some logistic challenges, inadequate declaration forms and the Easter holiday.

The minister explained that the data mining unit of her ministry had collated data of taxpayers from the land registry from 36 states and Federal Capital Territory, as well as banks account.

She also said the data was sourced from some foreign countries and financial institutions.
