Six people, including a pregnant woman, have died in a fatal auto crash at the mechanic village axis of the OGTV-Ajebo road in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The accident, which occurred on Tuesday night, involved a Nissan Bluebird saloon car, marked FD 638 EKY and a Volvo truck marked KJA 731 XP.
Spokesman of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Commander Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the driver of the loaded truck which was coming from OGTV end, lost control, due to over speeding.
The truck, according to him, crossed to the opposite lane of the road and hit the car, killing six of the eight passengers in the vehicle, including a pregnant woman and a female child.
”The truck was coming from OGTV road going into Abeokuta while the car was going to Mile 6. The truck which was overspeeding lost control of the vehicle and crossed to the opposite lane and hit the incoming vehicle”, Mr. Akinbiyi said.
Two other persons were also seriously injured.
Akinbiyi confirmed that bodies of those who died had been deposited at the state morgue of the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, while the injured persons were taken to the state hospital and Federal Medical Centre ,Idi-Aba.
