Population commission worried over low birth registration in Ogun State

National Population Commission (NPC) said it is worried over the low birth registration in Ogun State.

The commission said the large number of unregistered children in the state, is very worrisome.

The Commission’s State Director, Gbolahan Olude, expressed the concern in Abeokuta, at a stakeholders meeting on birth registration organized by the commission and United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF).

Olude said Ogun State recorded only 35 percent birth registration in 2013, according to data from the national demographic survey.

The figure, according to him, increases to 38 percent this year.

Olude asked the state government to assist the commission in recruiting ad-hoc staff, to undertake birth registration at ward level in the state.
