A police special task force has swung into operation in Ogun State in search of illegal, prohibited and unlicenced arms and ammunition.

The state police commissioner, Ahmed Ilyasu, constituted the team, at the expiration of a 21-day deadline to people in possession of such arms and ammunition to voluntarily surrender them for verification.

Spokesman of the state Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told Rockcity News, that the task force is at the moment gathering intelligence on owners and location of such weapons.

Owners of the illegal and unlicensed arms, according to him, will be fished out, if they fail to voluntarily submit the weapons in their possession.

Oyeyemi said the command is determined to mop up the state of illegal, prohibited and unlicensed arms, ahead of the 2019 polls.
