A 13-year-old suspected cultist has been arrested along with 31 others by the police in Bayelsa state.
The state police commissioner, Asuquo Mbam, parading the suspects in Yenagoa, said the teenage suspect is a Junior Secondary School student, and a member of the Greenlander cult group.
The group, according to the police chief, had been terrorizing people in the state.
Those arrested in the two weeks of police raid, according to the police chief, included 12 members of the Greenlander cult group, 11 from Icelander, six from Bobos, three from Barger and two from Viking.
Asuquo said, “A month ago, we noticed an increase in crime rate and after the visit of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of South-South, the command re-strategized and reduced it. With communities and security synergy, we have achieved successes.
“We also discovered that the issue of cultism in the state goes along with armed robbery. It also led the command to believe that cultism is close offence to armed robbery. But we warn that Bayelsa State was not created for cultists and we are out to smoke them out.”
He commended the various community vigilance groups for assisting the state command in policing the state.
