Police hunt for kidnapper of herdsmen in Abeokuta

Ogun State Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered a 24-hour surveillance patrol of Ijebu Igbo and its environs, following the bloody clashes between members of Oo’dua People Congress (OPC) and Aiye cult group in the town.

Iliyasu, also directed the police area commander in Ijebu Ode to coordinate police operation in the town.

The police commissioner, issued the directive, while visiting the town for an on-the-spot assessment of the town after the clash, which left four people killed, including a police inspector.

The first batch of 29 suspects have been arrested in connection with the bloody clashes, and items including a pump action rifle and one locally made pistol recovered from them.

Spokesman of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that additional five suspects were arrested, while policemen were combing the various hideouts of the hoodlums on Tuesday morning.

Oyeyemi explained that, the police also recovered from five more suspects two pump action gun, two locally made pistols, ten live cartridges and assorted charms.

The command, according to him, is determined to arrest anyone who is directly or indirectly involved in the clash.

The command had on Monday, deployed a special squad to the town to restore normalcy into the area.
