Operatives of the Federal Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) have shot dead a suspected kidnapper during an overnight raid of the hideout of a kidnap gang in a forest, near Ilaro, in the Yewa axis of Ogun State.
Police are still tracking the seven other members of the kidnap gang, who escaped with gunshots, after a gun battle lasting about one hour, in the early hours of Friday.
Spokesman of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the raid followed the escape of a victim of the kidnap gang, Sanni Nasarawa, from a forest where he was taken to.
The victim, according to him, had been tied for seven days in the forest, before escaping, while members of the gang were fast asleep.
After escaping, the kidnap victim rushed to report the incident at the F-SARS headquarters at Magbon in Abeokuta.
The police spokesman explained that officer in charge of F-SARS, Uba Adam, and his team, swiftly followed the man to the forest, and combed the forest from 6 pm on Thursday, till 4 am on Friday, before engaging members of the gang.
One of the gang members died in the encounter, while seven others who sustained gunshot wounds are still on the run.
Oyeyemi appealled to members of the public, especially hospitals and traditional healers to report cases of gunshot wounds to the nearest police post.
