Police kill five suspected kidnappers, rescue abducted victim in Cross River

Gunmen kidnap students and teachers in Ogun state

Operatives of the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have killed five suspected kidnappers and rescue their victim in Cross River state.

The victim, a woman, was rescued by SARS operatives after a shoot-out with the suspects at their hideout, located inside bush in the Ikom local government area.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Irene Ugbo, said police had been tracking the kidnappers for the past four days, after the abduction of the woman.

She added that the police also arrested two of the suspects during the fighting to rescue the woman.

The police spokesperson said, “Our men had an encounter with some kidnappers in the Ikom Local Government Area while trying to rescue an abducted woman from their captivity.

“In the process of rescuing the victim, the kidnappers engaged our men in an exchange of gunfire. We were able to rescue the woman, while five of the kidnappers were gunned down.

“We also arrested two of the kidnappers and our men are bringing them down to Calabar as we speak.”
