Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered police zonal and state commands, to arrest politicians and their supporters found with dangerous weapons during the political rallies, ahead of the 2019 polls.
The police chief, also orders the immediate prosecution of those arrested.
Idris, in a statement by the force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, asked them not to allow any form of intimidation and violent conduct by politicians and their supporters that could lead to political clashes.
He also directed the State Police Commissioners and Assistant Inspector General of Police not to tolerate hate speeches, indecent and defamatory comments.
