Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the deployment of six units of mobile police force to Offa in Kwara state, and Taraba State.
Three of the mobile police units will move into Offa, where armed robbers last Friday, killed 17 people, including nine police officers in a major attack on five banks in the town.
Force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, explained that the mobile policemen are to be accompanied by special investigation teams, as well as armoured personnel carriers, to comb the town and vulnerable points in the environs.
The special investigation teams, according to him, will carry out intelligence gathering, raid identified criminal flashpoints, and stop and search of people and vehicles.
The three other mobile police units being deployed to Taraba State, according to him, will cover Dong Bali, Gassol, Karim Lamido local government areas, which recently witnessed killings by bandits and suspected herdsmen.Please subscribe to our newsletter
