Armed policemen are now combing forests in Ekiti state, suspected to be the hideouts of kidnappers, rapists and other bandits in the state.
The forests being raided included those along Ise-Emure road, Ikere-Ekiti and Igbara Odo road.
The state police commissioner, Wilson Inalegwu, announcing this, while parading suspected criminals to newsmen at the police headquarters in Ado Ekiti, explained that the raid follows intelligence received from some traditional rulers in the state.
According to him, the command has also decided to co-opt local hunters and vigilance group in the manhunt.
He said that the special squad deployed to all the dark spots would carry out stop and search, regular patrol and combing of the forests at close intervals.
The traditional rulers, according to him, assisted the police command in identifying the forests used by the bandits, and conducted a survey of their activities.
The state in the past weeks have recorded several cases of raping, kidnapping and all forms of banditry.
