Police in Ogun State have arrested five suspects for allegedly vandalizing petroleum pipeline at Magboro near Ibafo, off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The suspects were caught last Sunday evening during a routine Police patrol led by Divisional Police Officer of Ibafo Police Division, Abiodun Ayinde.
Spokesman of the Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, names the suspects as Godwin Igho, Akinwale Tajudeen, Isiah Olalekan, Friday Terry, and Mayokun Raheem.
He says they were caught with petrol loaded into 12 fifty kilograms kegs stolen from a pipeline in the area.
The State Police Commissioner, Bashir Makama, according to him, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the Commissioner Monitoring Team for investigations.
Meanwhile, tension created by the leakage in the gas pipeline of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Ibafo in Ogun State has reduced.
The leakage caused panic in the area for several hours over fear that it could resulted in massive explosions in the area.
The incident caused traffic gridlock for several hours on both carriageway of the road.
The gas pipeline, according to Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), was hit by some of the equipment of Julius Berger, which is undertaking the construction of the expressway.
Technicians from NIPCO Gas and NNPC rushed to the area to fix the ruptured gas pipeline.
