Police arrest man for secret burial of lover after meeting in Abeokuta hotel

Ogun Police urge liquor sellers to volunteer intelligence on criminals

A 36-year-old man, Musiliu Owolabi, is now in a police custody, for alleged secret burial of his lover, after they met in a hotel at Obantoko Area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The state police commissioner, Ahmed Ilyasu, said the suspect, married with three children, was arrested last Monday at camp area of Abeokuta.

The woman, identified as Azeezat Babatunde Idowu, who was a divorcee, was allegedly buried in a shallow grave by the suspect, in an uncompleted building in the area without the consent of the owner.

Iliyasu, speaking to newsmen, while policemen were exhuming the decomposed body, said the suspect was arrested, following a complaint by the deceased’s brother last February 1, that her sister who left home to attend a naming ceremony was yet to return.

The Police chief said it took a technical intelligence-based investigation of the telephone’s call log of the woman, which revealed that the suspect was the last person who called her.

Iliyasu said, “On interrogation, the suspect admitted taking the deceased to Rocky Gold Hotel at Iyana-Apakila, Abeokuta, for pleasure, where he claimed she fell ill and later took her in his vehicle, but died under a mysterious circumstance in the car.

“He further confessed that he took the corpse to a nearby bush, dug a shallow grave and buried it without disclosing same to anybody.

“This made the circumstances of her death mysterious as well as questionable, which is condemnable. The suspect will soon be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction,” he said.

The suspect, speaking to newsmen, said he and her secret lover, were in a hotel before she started complaining of discomfort in her body.

The woman, according to him, died when he was rushing her to a hospital in the area.

He said, “We were just removing our clothes when she suddenly developed a severe temperature and later slumped. It was while I was taking her to the hospital in my vehicle that I discovered she has died.

“I did not inform the Police or anyone about the incident. I became apprehensive and decided to hide the corpse and later buried her in the midnight.”
