PETROL SHORTAGE: TRANSPORT FARE RISES IN ABEOKUTA

Transport fare has gone up in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, as the petrol shortage worsened in the city.

The petrol supply situation became more critical last weekend when more of the filling stations in the city shut their gates to motorists.

Commuters in the city now pay between N70 and N80 for a trip in taxi cabs from Asero to Ijemo, against the usual N50 fare.

The taxi cab drivers are also charging N40 fare for short distance instead of N30.

Taxi cab drivers who spoke with RockCity FM said they increased the fare because they are now buying a litre of petrol at prices ranging from N100 to N120 against the official price of N86.50
