Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has rejected the Bayo Dayo faction of the Ogun state PDP for the October 8 council polls.
OGSIEC’s screening Committee Chairman, Mutiu Agboke, announcing the decision at a news conference, said the agency recognize the Sikirulahi Ogundele faction PDP to represent the party at the polls.
A total of 207 chairmanship and 784 councillorship candidates were cleared by OGSIEC to contest the polls.
Agboke explained that the Bayo Dayo PDP faction was prevented from contesting the polls because of an interlocutory order issued by an Abeokuta High Court on the Ogun state leadership crisis.
He said the court ordered that only the Sikirulahi Ogundele PDP faction should be recognized for the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), PDP, and the inspector general of police for the polls.
The two PDP factions had submitted separate lists of candidates along with conflicting court orders to OGSIEC for the polls.
