Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has faulted the National Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) for accusing all the State Governors for being corrupt because of their opposition to the Local Government autonomy.
Ortom, in a statement by his media aide, Tervez Akaze, said he never opposed the proposed autonomy for Local Governments.
He said it was insulting for the NFIU to refer to all the Governors as corrupt and demanded an apology from the Anti-graft Agency.
The Nigeria Governors Forum had been accused of frustrating the passage of Local Government autonomy.
The Forum also opposed directives of NFIU to banks to pay allocation of the Local Governments in the State/Local Government joint account to the Councils.
