Olorunsogo Power Plant, Nine Others Shut Down

The Olorunsogo Power Plant at Papalanto, near Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, is now idle.

The gas powered plant is one of the ten out of 21 power plants nationwide, which have not generated electricity in the past days.

Other affected power plants are those in Sapele, Alaoji, Omotosho, Ihovbor, Gbarain as well as independent power plants such as Ibom Power IPP, AES IPP, and ASCO IPP.

The idle plants had caused a major drop in electricity generated by the nation’s power plants to 2,800 megawatts as at last Monday.

The Nigeria Electricity System Operator says four of the plants were idle as at last Friday.

This year alone, the national electricity grid had collapsed nine times, including four in January.
