Okonjo Iweala says, national assembly collected n17b bribe, to pass 2015 budget

Meanwhile, Former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has revealed that the Jonathan administration was forced to pay N17 billion bribe to members of the national assembly, for the passage of the 2015 budget bill.

She said, the N17 billion bribe was paid to the lawmakers at a period, when the price of crude oil, that the 2015 budget bill was based, had dropped to $58 per barrel.

The Former Minister, who made this known in her book: ’fighting corruption is dangerous: the story behind the headlines,’ also described the national assembly members, as a tough political group and difficult to deal with.

The lawmakers, according to her, often distort the appropriation bill presented to them as lawmakers, by adding individual projects, creating new projects or removing fund from critical projects.
