Ogun votes N6bn for model colleges project in 2017

N5.96 billion has been voted in the proposed Ogun State N200 billion 2017 budget bill for the completion of 15 of the state government’s model colleges across the state.

The Education, Science and Technology Commissioner, Mrs Modupe Mujota, said some of the colleges will ready to admit students in January 2017.

The Commissioner made this known while defending the N8.4 billion capital vote of her ministry in the proposed 2017 budget before the finance and appropriation committee of the state House of Assembly in Abeokuta.

She also explained why the state government opted for three-storey prototype for the model college project.

Apart from the N5.96 billion for the completion of model colleges, she told the assembly committee that N1 billion will be spent on the construction of 57 blocks of four classrooms in each of the state’s 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas.

Also, N1.32 billion is voted for bursary to students in higher institutions of learning, the equipping of libraries in public schools, as well as the payment of fees of senior secondary schools certificate examination for final year students in the state’s public secondary schools.
