Ogun to seize property used for criminal activities

Properties, including buildings and undeveloped land used to carry out criminal activities in Ogun state, are to be confiscated by the state government, if the State House of Assembly approves a bill now before it.

The bill titled:’ the armed robbery, kidnapping, violent conduct and other related offences bill’, listed the criminal activities as including kidnapping, armed robbery, money rituals, vandalism, land grabbing and extortion.

The state’s Justice Commissioner, Doctor Olumide Ayeni, who made this known during a Rockcity FM programme “Daybreak Show”, said the bill sent to the assembly by the state government, will address the growing criminal acts in the state.

Ayeni said the mini criminal code bill, which is the first of its kind in Nigeria, updates some of the laws that are no longer potent enough to discourage criminal activities in the state.
