Owners of houses in Ogun State without toilets are to face arrest, as the state government battle with the outbreak of cholera in parts of Abeokuta, the state capital.
The policy is causing anxiety particularly in Abeokuta, especially in the local quarters where most of the homes lack modern toilets.
The State Government says it will begin enforcing the new policy, as from this week.
Permanent secretary in the health ministry, Doctor Adesanya Ayinde, says health workers will be deployed to inspect houses across the state.
The permanent secretary explains that open defecation is no longer acceptable in the state as it is capable of causing cholera and other infections.
