Ogun to demolish structure on Lagos-Ibadan road setback

Ogun state government is to begin the demolition of structures erected on its setback on the Isheri/Berger to Sagamu interchange segment of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The demolition which is to pave the way for the implementation of the state government’s Go Green Project, aims at beautifying the route, and reduce traffic jam on the expressway.

A member of the Go Green Project Committee, Bashorun Adebola Adeife who made this known in Abeokuta to newsmen, after a stakeholders meeting to sensitize the affected people in the axis, also said all the filling stations that encroached on the setback would be demolished.

Adeife who also is the state Urban and Physical Planning Commissioner, said compensation would be paid owners of the demolished structures, who obtained building approval from the government before embarking on such project in the axis.

Chairman of the Go Green Project, Kolawole Lawal, who also is the state Forestry Commissioner, said all identified illegal structures and abandoned trucks in the axis have been marked for demolition.

An estimated 220 shanties, 41 truck containers and over 100 dilapidated trucks were abandoned around the axis.
