Governor Ibikunle Amosun has said that more than 100 illegal routes are being used by migrants from ECOWAS countries to enter Ogun state through the Nigeria’s border with Benin Republic.
The governor who stated this while receiving the new state comptroller of the Nigeria immigration service, Yusuf Mumeen, at the governor’s office in Abeokuta, asked the agency to detect more of such illegal routes into the state.
Amosun, who expressed concern over the rising influx of illegal migrants into the state from neighboring countries, said such unchecked migration posed security threat to the state.
The Governor promised to assist the immigration in fighting child trafficking across the border.
The new state immigration controller, Yusuf Mumeen said the agency has discovered 48 illegal routes from other ECOWAS countries into Ogun State.
