Ogun Says It Is Augmenting Councils’ Allocations With N532 Million Monthly

Ogun State Government says it is augmenting the budget of the state’s 20 local governments with N532 million every month, the augmentation followed the frequent shortfall in the monthly allocations of the local governments from the federation account.

Finance Commissioner, Dapo Okubadejo made this known during the April 2023 meeting of the state joint allocation committee at the Obas Complex, Oke Mosan in Abeokuta, the state capital.

According to the commissioner the 20 local governments received over N3.8 billion allocation from the federation account for the month of March 2023.

He however said the local governments require N4.3 billion to meet their first line charges, such as salaries of primary school teachers and local government staff.

Other first line charges are the payment for pensions, allowances of traditional councils, statutory payments to the local government service commission.

Earlier, the state’s commissioner for local governments and chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat,  told the JAAC that Ogun received N3, 812, 189, 793: 89 as its share for the month of March 2023 from FAAC.

At the JAAC meeting held at the Oba’s Conference Hall of the State Secretariat Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Hamzat said the FAAC’s sum included the statutory shares, Value Added Tax (VAT), as well as the Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL).
