Ogun private schools operators protest high fees, multiple taxation

Private School Owners in Ogun State have staged a peaceful protest in Abeokuta, against the State Government increase of fees for the Basic Education Certificate Examination and First School Leaving Certificate.

They also accused government of arbitrary increase of signage fee, tenement rate, renewal fee and several other multiple taxes.

The State President of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Alhaji Rilwan Hassan addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, said both the state government and the state house of assembly, had refused to grant them audience to discuss the issue.

For instance, he said the State Government, increased fee for basic education certificate examination for pupils in private secondary schools from N2,500 to N5,000, while their counterpart in public schools are not paying anything .

He added that government, also raised fee for the first school leaving certificate for pupils in private primary schools from N1,000 to N2,000, while public school pupils are charged N1,000.
