Ogun State Police Command has asked liquor sellers in the state to volunteer intelligence on suspected criminal activities to any of its divisional headquarters across the state.
The state police commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, made the call while speaking to newsmen on the sideline of a seminar organised by the command for liquor and drink sellers in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Iliyasu explains that the seminar was organized because liquor sellers could be a veritable source of the needed intelligence on the criminals activities, which are mostly coordinated from the drinking joints.
According to the police chief, the era of some unscrupulous officers leaking the identity of sources of intelligence to criminals has gone.
The state chairperson of the Association of Liquor and Drink Sellers, Mrs Serifat Akinsanya, promised that members of the association are ready to give the needed intelligence on criminal elements who might want to use their market place to perpetuate evils in the state to the police.
