Two members of a kidnap gang have been shot dead by police in an operation to rescued a woman abducted in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
One of the officers of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) was injured in the gun battle, in a bush at Kila, near Odeda on Thursday.
Spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the woman was rescued unhurt by the police officers from the kidnap gang
Oyeyemi explained that the woman identified as Mrs Ajayi, whose husband is a pastor, unknowingly boarded a taxi cab being operated by the kidnap gang in Abeokuta, heading towards Eleweran.
The kidnappers eventually took her to a bush off the Abeokuta-Ibadan expressway at Kila, near Odeda, from where they put a telephone call to her husband, demanding a N2 million ransom to release her.
The police team on receiving distress call from the woman’s husband, tracked the kidnappers to their hideout at Kila, where they engaged themselves in gun battle lasting 45 minutes.
At the end of the gun battle, two of the kidnappers who were shot died on being rushed to a hospital.
