Ogun Issues Flood Alert, Asks River Bank Residents To Relocate

Ogun State Government has asked people residing close to the bank of rivers and major streams in the State, to immediately relocate to safer places, ahead of more heavy rainfall.
Some of the areas identified by the State Government as flood prone, includes Gbangba, near Iyana Mortuary, Iyana Amolaso, Kuto, Oke Ijeun, Oke Shokori, Ago Ijesha, Kobiti and Lafenwa all in the State capital.
Other flood prone areas are Ifo, Ota and Isheri off Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Acting Director of Flood and Erosion Control in the State Ministry of Environment, Ismail Adenuga, issues the directive while speaking to newsmen on the sensitization programme on indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the State.
He explains that the State had been identified by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency as one of the States likely to experience heavy downpour and massive flooding in 2019.
Adenuga says the last week heavy downpour in Abeokuta and other parts of the State is a sign of the heavy rain likely to be experienced in the State this year.
The State Government, according to him, will soon embark on the demolition of houses built on waterways.
