Ogun government asks state assembly to pass harmonized revenue bill

Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun,

Ogun State Government has asked the state house of assembly to fast-track its consideration and passage of the harmonized revenue and other charges bill pending before it.

The state government said it has the capacity to increase its monthly internal revenue generation from N7billion to n12 billion, if the bill is passed by the state assembly.

The State Finance Commissioner, Wale Osinowo made the call while hosting members of the house’s finance and appropriation committee, appraising the state 2018 budget implementation.

Osinowo explained that the bill contains revenue initiatives of the Amosun’s administration aims at increasing the state government revenue profile.

The finance commissioner said manufacturers operating in the state have been complaining over continuous delay in the passage of the bill, saying it is affecting the cost of doing business due to multiple taxation by state and local government agencies.

The state assembly has failed to hold a public hearing  for manufacturers and other stakeholders  on the bill, since it scaled through  second reading last May 22.

The organized private sector had called for the urgent passage of the bill to end the multiple taxes and charges they are being compelled to pay to various authorities in the state.
