Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has asked cattle herders and farmers in the state to work together, to counter the activities of killer herdsmen in the state.
Abiodun, making the call at a joint meeting with leaders of farmers and cattle breeders at the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, says that co-operation between them will enable the state actualize its agenda of emerging as Nigeria’s food basket.
The governor says, the meeting aims at forestalling the possible invasion and destruction of farmlands and destruction of farmlands in the state, by hostile herders.
Abiodun, represented by the state Agriculture Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs Abosede Ogunleye, says the dry season is fast approaching, and the influx of herders and their cattle are expected in the state.
Chairman of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdul-Mumuni, promises that members of the association will help in exposing criminals posing as herders to the appropriate authorities.
Also, Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria in the state, Chief Segun Dasaolu, says the association and cattle breeders have formed a joint task force to resolve differences between them.
