Ogun state government has banned tankers and other articulated trucks from plying overhead bridges in Ogun state
Those affected by the ban include trailers, flatbeds and articulated trucks of 33 or 66 tonnes capacity
Governor Dapo Abiodun who announced the ban promises that stiff penalties will be imposed on the operators of the defaulting trucks
The governor speaking during a visit to the scene of a petrol tanker which exploded at Kuto, Abeokuta, says that the state government will ensure that all articulated trucks plying roads in the state are road worthy
The state government, according to the governor had invited burnt specialists from Lagos to attend to those severely burnt in the tanker explosion fire
He commiserated with families of three persons who died in the tanker explosion, while promising that those who were injured will be taken care of, and those whose properties were destroyed will be assisted
Meanwhile, three persons have been burnt to death in a petrol tanker explosion on Tuesday morning at Kuto axis of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital
Four others were injured in the explosion fire
Six vehicles and six motorcycles were also set ablaze by fire from the explosion on the presidential boulevard, close to GtBank
The tragic accident occurred shortly before 9am, when a tanker loaded with petrol developed a brake failure, while descending from the overhead bridge spanning Gtb axis with Kuto round about
This resulted in the loss of control of the tanker by its driver, which crashed into motorcycles, taxi cabs and several other vehicles, before exploding
The explosion caused panic in Ibara-Kuto-Oke Ilewo and Oke Igbein axis of the city
An eye witness, Ayoade Adetola who was in her car, Lexus car marked SMK 634 ET, with three other occupants, said the tanker fell on the car, but all escaped unhurt
