Ogun Assembly asks councils to cut recurrent bills to execute projects

Ogun State House of Assembly has asked Ogun’s 57 local governments and local council development areas (LCDA) to cut their overhead expenses, to free funds for the capital projects.

For instance, the Obafemi-Owode local government spent N240 million on overhead and N8.3 million on capital projects, Oba LCDA (N3.1 million on overhead and N2.7 million on capital) while Ikenne local government spent N24.3million on overhead and N8.3 million on capital projects.

The Assembly’s local government and chieftaincy affairs committee chairman, Olusola Sonuga and the finance and appropriation committee chairman, Olusola Bankole made the call during visit to Remo-central LCDA, Ikenne local government, Remo North local government, Odogbolu local government and Leguru LCDA.

The committees members told the council chiefs that it will be difficult for their councils to make meaningful impact on the lives of the people, without the execution of capital projects.

The state Assembly local government and chieftaincy affairs committee also visited Ijebu-North local government, Ijebu Igbo West LCDA, Ijebu North Central LCDA  and Ago-Iwoye LCDA.
