Ogun Amotekun Wants Operatives To Carry High Calibre Arms

Ogun State Amotekun corps is seeking powers to prosecute suspected criminals that its operatives have been arresting across the state

The coprs also wants its operatives to carry high calibre arms to cope with the sophisticated arms being carried by killer herders and other criminal elements in the state

The commander of the corps, David Akinremi, a retired police commissioner, stated this during an interview with a Rockcity FM correspondent, Yemi Eniola in Abeokuta

He says the corps wants autonomy to prosecute suspect, and it is working with the attorney general of the state, in this regard

At the moment, Akinremi says that all the suspects arrested are being handed over to the police, adding that the corps could not monitor the progress on their prosecution

Akinremi also says that the operatives of Amotekun are prohibited from carrying prohibited arms, and had been compelled to apply indigenous methods to face criminal elements

On the long run, Aderemi says the Amotekun corps operatives should be armed with high calibre arms, to cope with the rising challenges posed by criminal elements who are upgrading their armoury from time to time
