Ogun Amotekun Corps Now Active In Six Local Government Areas

Operatives of the Ogun State Amotekun corps are now operating in six of the state’s 20 local government areas, which are facing immediate security challenges

120 operatives of the corps are active in Imeko Afon, Yewa North, Ipokia, Sagamu, Ijebu Ode and Ijebu North local government areas

The corps commander, David Akinremi, who made this known in an interview with rockcity fm correspondent, Yemi Eniola, says the 120 operatives are the first batch trained so far

According to the commander, who is a retired police commissioner, the second batch of the recruits from seven more local government areas, started their training last week

Those undergoing training are drawn from Abeokuta South, Ado Odo Ota, Ewekoro, Ifo, Ijebu East, Ogun Waterside and Ijebu North local government areas

The second batch undergoing training will be followed by recruits from the remaining seven local government areas

On the complain of the non visibility of amotekun corps by members of the public, Akinremi explains that the security outfit was not established for parading in the urban areas

The corps, according to him, is operating more as an undercover, providing intelligence for security agencies, and had played a major part in most of the arrests of cultists in Ijebu Axis, and other parts of the state

He says that those arrested by the Amotekun corps are always handed over to the police and other security agencies for prosecution
