Sodiq Odukoya has emerged as the new junior champion of the recently concluded Ogun state developmental table tennis championship held at the Alake Sports Complex, Ijeja, Abeokuta.
Odukoya defeated last month finalist, Ayomide Abiona, by the three sets to one in the final game of the competition while Ayomide Edunjobi and Opeyemi Adeniyi jointly finished in the third position.
To reach the final, Abiona dismissed the defending champion, Edunjobi in the semi-final three sets to two, while Odukoya beat Adeniyi by three sets to one in the other semi-final contest.
Esther Akintonde, however, retained her junior girls single title, after humiliating Mariam Popoola by three straight sets in a repeat of the last month final of the junior girls category of the competition, while Yetunde Yekeen and Abibat Adeboye jointly clinched the third position.
In the semi-finals, Akintonde thrashed Abibat Adeboye by two straight sets while Popoola whipped Yetunde Yekeen by three straight sets to reach final of the championship.
Also in the cadet boys’ single, Rokeeb Bisiriyu emerged as the new champion, after thrashing Shuaib Adisa by three straight sets while Tobi Idowu and Damilola Bolajoko both finished in the third spot.
For the cadet girls’s single, Karimot Kareem is the new champion, beating Olorunfunmi Adekoya by three sets to two in a keenly contested final, while the defending champion Fathia Yekeen and Kehinde Olayiwola ended in the joint third position.
