Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has backed the presidency on the continued closure of Nigeria’s land borders.
Obasanjo accuses Benin Republic of allowing itself to be used to undermine the Nigerian Economy.
The former president spoke on the issue at a briefing in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the sideline of the two-day policy dialogue of African Business Associations on implementing the African Continental free Trade Area, AFCFTA, agreements, co-organized by the African Union (au), African Development bank, AFDB, the African Export – Import bank, Afreximbank.
Nigeria, according to Obasanjo, is not opposed to goods manufactured in Benin Republic, but will not allow it turn Nigeria into a dumping ground.
Obasanjo says Nigeria has for long endure Benin republic for undermining its economy, recalling how he once complained to president of Benin when he was still in office.
The Former President recalls that they met at Nigeria’s border and agreed that Nigeria’s border post be established in Benin Republic.
