Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), His Eminence, Sunday Mbang, has described former president Olusegun Obasanjo as Nigeria’s best president since independence.
Mbang, who also is a former Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, said he owes no one an apology on his assessment of Obasanjo.
The cleric stated this in Abeokuta at a thanksgiving service held at the Chapel of Christ, the Glorious King at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library to mark the eightieth birthday of Obasanjo.
The cleric recalls that Obasanjo while in office, always consulted god before taking decision on any policy or programme.
He said, “This is a man I have known for a very long time. I fell in love with him when I discovered that he held morning devotion every morning in Aso Rock when he became the civilian President.
“The morning devotion was attended by his family members and other people. That was why he succeeded in government. God never allowed them to impeach him.
“Obasanjo is the best President Nigeria has ever had. I have no apology to anybody about it. He also built a chapel inside Aso Rock within three months after getting there.”
The thanksgiving was attended by important dignitaries, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, former president, Goodluck Jonathan, the ECOWAS chairman, Ellen Sirleaf Johnson, as well as, Governors Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun and Victor Ikpeazu of Abia.
