Obasanjo asks Niger Delta leaders to drop resource control agitation

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has asked oil producing states in the Niger Delta region, to drop their agitation for resource control.

He warned that the region will not move forward, if its leaders continue to look back to 1956 when oil was first discovered in the area.

Obasanjo who made the call at the ground breaking ceremony of a modular refinery project at Yenagoa, that God who created Nigeria to be a united nation.

As a united nation, Obasanjo said oil resources in the country should be managed for all Nigerians, and not controlled by any section of the country.

Obasanjo, however, explained that the oil producing communities should benefit first and then all parts of the country.

The former president recalled that his administration in this regard allocated two oil blocs to Bayelsa State.
