Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged President Muhammadu Buhari, not to seek re-election in 2019, at the expiration of his first tenure in office.
He asked Buhari to leave in 2019, with honour and dignity to attend to his health, and to ignore self-serving advisers who believe that there will be no Nigeria without him.
Accusing Buhari of performing far below expectation, Obasanjo in a special press statement, asked him to quit in 2019, and join former Nigerian leaders, whose experience, influence, wisdom and outreach could be deployed for the good of the country.
Obasanjo said neither Buhari nor the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), has answers to Nigeria’s problems, adding that Buhari is not healthy enough to stand the rigour of a country like Nigeria, while APC is incapable of assisting him.
The former president explained that he was aware while backing Buhari in 2015 that he was weak on economic issues, but had expected him to appoint qualified Nigerians to assist him in running the economy.
