NULGE shops for 24 state assemblies approval of councils autonomy

22 states, FCT owe local government workers - NULGE

Nine state Houses of Assembly have so far voted for the proposed autonomy for the local government system in the ongoing amendment of the 1999 constitution.

The state assemblies include those of Ogun, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Bauchi, Sokoto, Cross River, and Bayelsa states.

Three state assemblies, including those of Edo, Imo and Rivers states, voted against the bill.

President of National Union of Local Government Employees, Ibrahim Khaleel, made this known in Akure, at a news conference held at the end of a technical session on the review of the constitution for media.

Khaleel said the union needs 15 out of the remaining 24 state assemblies that are still voting on the constitutional amendment.
