Northern States Governors Forum has moved to end the clashes between farmers and herdsmen, which have left hundreds of people killed and several properties destroyed.
The governors met the national leaders of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, in Sokoto, to explore fresh ways of stopping the conflicts.
In attendance at the meeting were the forum chairman, Kashim Shettima, governors Nasir el-Rufai, Abdullahi Ganduje and Aminu Tambuwal.
Shetimma at the opening of the meeting said there is urgent need to end the killings, considering the security challenges in the northeast region.
“We have seen enough crisis in the North East with Boko Haram. We cannot afford to let any other conflict linger without a solution. We hope to hear from all sides and finally come up with a workable plan that will restore confidence and entrench lasting peace in our region,” he said.
No communique was issued at the end of the meeting, which will still hold in Makurdi, Kaduna, Abuja and Jos.Please subscribe to our newsletter
