National Agency for Food, Drug Admnistration and Control (NAFDAC) has confirmed that the consignment of rice seized by the Nigeria Customs Service from a Lagos warehouse is not plastic rice.
The agency, however says the seized rice is not fit for human consumption because it contains micro-organism above permissible level.
NAFDAC Director General, Mrs Yetunde Oni, who made this known at a joint news conference with the Comptroller General of Customs, Rtd Col. Hameed Alli, said the results of the preliminary laboratory test on the seized rice had been sent to the health minister.
The Customs seized more than 100 bags of the so called plastic rice from a warehouse in Lagos and handed over to NAFDAC for investigation.
