NNPC to resume oil search in Lake Chad

Search for crude oil intensifies in Bauchi, Gombe, and Borno states

Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said it is finalizing arrangements to resume the exploration for crude oil deposit in the Lake Chad basin in Borno state.

The corporation’s group managing director, Doctor Maikanti Baru, made this known during a courtesy call on Governor Kashim Shettima at the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri.

He said NNPC will mobilize heavy and sophisticated equipment to the site for the resumption of the oil exploration within the next six weeks.

According to Baru, the resumption of oil exploration in the basin within the next six months followed assurances received from the military of adequate security and relative peace in the area of the exploration.
