Civil servants in Kano State have issued a strike notice over irregular payment of salaries.
The state branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had given the state government up till March 5, to meet the demands of the workers or they will embark on a three day warning strike.
The NLC Chairman, Kabiru Minjibir addressing a news conference in Kano, explained that their demands include the payment of the outstanding eight month salary, and regularization of recruited staff of the state Primary Healthcare Agency.
Another demand is the stoppage of irregular deduction from salaries, and the payment of salaries arrears of the staff of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board.
“The intended warning strike is due to the protracted inconsistencies in the payment of monthly salaries to workers by the so-called consultants engaged by government.
“We noted with serious concern the unauthorised deduction of undefined amount of over N367.50 from worker monthly salaries and N168.00 from pensioners for undisclosed reason.
“The government must suspend the use of consultants on salary issues latest by May 2018 and hand it over to qualified and experienced civil servants,’’ Minjibir said.
The NLC Chairman however said that the labour unions would have no option than to “embark on a three-day warning strike after March 5”, if the issues raised were not addressed.
