Police have discovered corpses of 41 persons in Zamfara state which has been under a siege of armed bandits, cattle rustlers, kidnappers and other criminal groups.
The corpses found in the hideout of notorious criminal gangs, had their throat cut.
The State Police Commissioner, Kenneth Ebrimson, who made this known to newsmen in Gusau, said that 18 of the bodies were found last Sunday, in a river in the axis.
The other 23 bodies, according to him, were discovered in Zurmi forest in the area.
He said that four suspected members of the criminal gangs were arrested by policemen during a search of the forest, adding that machetes and guns were also recovered during the search.
Last April, army deployed Special Forces to tackle the frequent attacks by bandits which had forced hundreds of people to cross over to Katsina state to seek refuge.
