Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has sacked four policemen attached to Ijebu-Ode Area Command in Ogun State over extortion of N50,000 from a man they arrested on a trumped up charge.

Affected officers are Inspector Mufutau Olaosun, Sergent Adebayo Temitope, Corporal Bakare Taiwo and Corporal Adesoye Ayokunlehin.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Sogunle, who heads the Police Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit, in a statement, said the men were dismissed after they were found guilty in an orderly room trial at the Area Command Headquarters, Ijebu-Ode.

Sogunle explained that the officer, last June 7, arrested a man who was leaving a bank and took him to the Igbeba station, labelled him a “yahoo boy” and made him frog jump.

After this, he said the dismissed officers coarsed the man to write a self-incriminating statement that he is an internet fraudster before he was released.

According to Sogunle, the man while lodging a complaint with the Police Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit, said the sum of N50,000 he had gone to collect on behalf of his boss was also collected as his bail.

The police chief said the money had since been recovered from the four policemen and given back to the man.
