Nigeria Ends rice import

The Presidency has assured that the importation of rice will end next year, considering the massive investment in the cultivation of the commodity nationwide.

Agriculture and rural development minister, Chief Audu Ogbeh, gave the assurance at a joint anchor borrower rice farm inspected he inspected along with governor Abubakar bello and the governor of the central bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele in Sunti, Niger State.

Ogbeh said he predicted the stoppage of rice import following the massive rice production facilitated by the anchor borrower programme being financed by CBN.

The Minister said the Ministry intends to provide more improved seedling to more States.

The CBN Governor said about n2 billion had been disbursed to farmers and other players in the value chain producers in selected crops, promising that fund would be extended to rice millers and harvesters.
